BioBorn into a musical family, Aubrey began her musical studies at the age of 4 taking piano lessons with Christine Petrucci. At age 9, she added clarinet lessons in school and also began guitar lessons with Eric Sinclair. She also continued her piano studies with Charlie Jennison and then Yvonne Aubert. At age 12, after seeing a video of Tal Wilkenfeld perform with Jeff Beck, Aubrey knew that she wanted to play the bass. She began electric bass lessons with her uncle, Tom Moore, and it soon became clear that she had found her musical voice. Around this time she also began studying theory, arranging and ear training with her grandfather, Les Harris, who had taught these subjects 27 years at Berklee College of Music in Boston.
Aubrey began playing upright bass a year later after being awarded the Traditional Arts Apprenticeship Grant from the New Hampshire State Council on the Arts to study jazz, blues and American roots music with guitarist T.J. Wheeler in 2011. Later that year, Aubrey’s transcription of Tal Wilkenfeld’s bass solo on “Cause We’ve Ended as Lovers” was voted video of the year (2011) on the acclaimed bass website NoTreble.com . In August of 2012, Aubrey was selected by the Grammy Foundation as one of 136 high school students nationwide to participate in one of three Grammy Camp sessions. Aubrey was one of the 31 students chosen to attend Grammy Camp NY in Brooklyn. In December of 2012, Aubrey was one of 7 Grammy Camp alumni chosen to perform at the American Country Awards with country singer and guitarist, Keith Urban. The show was televised live on FOX TV from the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, NV. In the summer of 2013, Aubrey attended Berklee College of Music 5 Week Program. During the final concert at the Berklee Performance Center, she was awarded a full four-year scholarship to attend Berklee College of Music. She graduated high school a year early and began Berklee in the Fall of 2014. Aubrey follows in the footsteps of her father, (Les Harris Jr. '83), and grandfather, (Les Harris Sr. '56), by becoming the third generation in her family to attend Berklee College of Music. On the 9th Season of America's Got Talent (2014), Aubrey performed bass and background vocals with contestant Mara Justine. The showed was filmed live from Radio City Music Hall in New York City and broadcasted on NBC. |
